Giulia’s story

“Here I am, I introduce myself. My name is Giulia, I’m 14 years old, to be precise, I was born  on 3rd March, 1997 in Bergamo ….  I dream of writing a book to tell a story. My story. Because, earlier, I was afraid too … If other people are close to us, they come beside us, they put their hand on our shoulders and they tell us ” Come on, you’ll make it!” This is what gives us the strength to carry on.. I really want to have fun, to go out with my friends, to do shopping, to dance and start school: in short,  simply to LIVE !! “

This is the story of Giulia Gabrieli, 14 years old, who had got a cancer. Firstly, I want you to know since now that Giulia made it. She did not recover from her illness, this is true: she died on August, 19th in the evening, at home in San Tomaso de’ Calvi district in Bergamo, while, during the WYD (Word Youth Day), young people Via Crucis had just been celebrated in Madrid. Yet, she made it. She managed to transform her 2-year-long illness into a hymn to life […] Yet, she was a normal girl. Indeed she claimed her normality: she was nice, sunny, unaffectedly theatrical, she loved travelling, smartly dressing and she adored shopping.
